About the Partnership

After a careful mapping of vision and mission of a broad range of American universities, selected universities in three African countries- Burundi, Ghana and Nigeria agreed to enter into partnership with Washington State University (WSU) to conduct programmes and activities of basic and applied research, education and training, technology and information transfer, and economic development.

The partner universities will cooperate in efforts to establish and conduct mutually agreed upon cooperative and collaborative projects, programmes, and/or activities, which will enhance the programmes of each.  Specific details of any cooperative/collaborative activities to be conducted, including cooperation with third parties and allocation of support and resources, shall be set forth and agreed upon in writing as a contract between parties.

The partner institutions agree to work toward building a network of research collaborations and scholarly and student exchanges designed to help communities build resilience to both short-term and persistent adverse events. The goal is to build collaborations across relevant disciplines to have impact in three interrelated strands of activity:

  1. Broadening educational access and equipping youth with the necessary tools for strengthening their communities and achieving their own economic security.
  2. Enhancing food security through efforts to mitigate the effects of drought and flood, and crop diseases and pests, and by addressing social and policy factors that can improve access to a healthy food supply.
  3. Increasing health equity by addressing the social determinants of health and vulnerability to disease.
